Sony releases pics and dates of upcoming tablets

Sony released images of their two upcoming tablets today. They are slated for release in the fall of 2011. The electronics and entertainment behemoth seeems to be taking a different approach entering the tablet market with its design.

The design of the S2 is a foldable tablet sort of like the Nintendo DS. Its main use will be for communication. It can be used for other uses as well. It sports two 5.5in screens which can be used for a variety of purposes.

The S1 tablet will sport a 9.4in capacitive touch screen. It will be comparable to the iPad and will run Google Android Honeycomb (3.0). This tablet has a different feel. It looks like a clipboard and is easier to hold than the traditional tablet. This tablet is bigger but will make reading magazine subscriptions and documents much easier. Not to mention, it will be able to handle your media needs with ease.

Both tablets will come in Wifi or 3G models but the wirelees carrier to carry these tablets has not been released as of yet.

Intrerestingly, Sony didnt brag about the hardware specs like they do with any other portable gadet they promote. Instead of focusing on the hardware specs, they were focusing on the software side touting how easy it is for the consumer to navigate around on the device and how responsive the touch screens were when users tapped the screen. Perhaps this may be sonys strategy of becoming #2 in the tablet market as they mentioned a few months ago.
